Anti-Racism Pledge

Anti-racist: those who speak and act in ways that advance racial equity in society; the act of interrupting racism.

I am committed to naming white supremacy and the impact of racism on both my personal and professional life.

I acknowledge the omni-present existence of white supremacy and how it operates and is supported in my life and my business. I commit to naming the force of white supremacy in my company values, business operations, and to continue to discuss its reach in my personal life, business, and greater community.

I am committed to engaging in ongoing anti-racist education.

I am committed to allocating money and time to be educated on anti-racism on an ongoing basis. Because of the systemic nature of racism, anti-racism must be active. This is not a one-time thing.

My current educational engagement is with Disrupting Our Whiteness: Finding Wholeness in Resistance, a program created by Holistic Resistance.

I am committed to open-conflict and allowing discomfort.

I truly believe conflict is one of our greatest teachers. When conflict arises, I am committed to letting it arise. I will not hide it, delete it, or ignore it. I will acknowledge the conflict, allow space for community members to be heard and deal with the underlying issue. I will not demonizing any community member who raises an issue.

I am committed to investing a portion of my monthly company budget to the Black community

I am committed to using my access to resources to direct a flow of resources to the Black community. I am committed to spending a portion of of my company budget on Black-owned services, contractors, vendors, and supplies.

I will be honest in saying I am not sure what this will look like, but I am committed to investigating how to follow through on this commitment.

I am sincerely committed to the work of anti-racism. I believe it is my ethical responsibility as a person with privilege to work actively to dismantle systems of oppression. If anything about your experience working with me strikes you as being incongruent with my stated values, please reach out to me to share your feedback. I am committed to the imperfect and messy work of taking steps toward liberation for all.

This pledge outlining specific practices for small businesses was written and created by Rachel Rodgers, Ericka Hines, and Sonya Renee Taylor. My commitments use primarily their language, with my own additions as they apply to myself and my business.
