What

An 8-week experience to learn experientially and in community a) how each Enneagram type’s attention gets automatically hijacked, b) why it happens, and c) what to do when you catch yourself in the act.

I’ll share brief teachings and guide experiential practices regarding patterns of attention and how they play out in each Enneagram type, in the world and when we attempt to do inner work. Each participant will have an opportunity to do a piece of inner work on a panel with the group holding compassionate witness to the process.

Panels are my favorite way to not only learn about type but to really see where the rubber meets the road when it comes to inner work!

Who

This group is best for you if you know your dominant Enneagram type and have a desire to deepen a compassionate understanding for all types through the lived experiences of fellow humans. You may struggle with distraction and want to see more clearly how and why your attention gets hijacked, especially when it comes to waking up to your Self.

This will be an intimate group with no more than 3 folks who lead with each of the 9 types.

Where

We’ll meet on Zoom for our live sessions. There will be a private homepage for this cohort (not on social media) to continue to share reflections throughout our time together.

Live attendance and participation is encouraged, especially during the week of your type! The homepage will be hosted in Notion. Recordings will be made available for group members for a limited time after the group closes.

When

Live sessions are Thursdays from May 23 - July 18 from 11am-1pm PDT

How Much?

The investment for this beta round of a Narrative-Style cohort is $400. That includes 16 hours of live sessions, plus a private homepage (off of social media) to digest what you’re learning and ask questions between sessions.

 What people are saying:

  • "My sincerest gratitude for your ability to hold a container. You’ve really made this space nonjudgmental. You have a way of helping me go to places I avoid, or because I’m scared I don’t want to go there alone. It’s meant a lot to have such a steady guide. The gentleness with which you approach this has been incredibly appreciated, and it’s very much a gift."

    ~ Group Participant

  • "I appreciate the accessibility from approaching the Enneagram through a non-religious lens and the intentionality around non-judgmental and empowering language. Caryn’s vulnerability to share about her past and present experiences model approaching life through an Enneagram lens in a very human way. I felt that I was able to show up exactly as I was in any given moment and be seen and valued for however that was."

    ~ Group Participant

  • "Throughout the group, Caryn's openness was obvious - never judgmental - and she is very good at accepting people for where they are at. Caryn's willingness to be open about her own practice is very inspiring and her leadership inspired the group to be vulnerable and feel comfortable enough to do so. Her focus on learning how to listen to our bodies is a new level of support that I have never experienced before. I jokingly tell people that Caryn is a "magician" but what I mean by that is she is able to get so much out of a person just by encouraging them to consider themselves in a way they may not have before."

Discover how each Enneagram type’s automatic Habit of Attention keeps us from inner growth… and how to work with it compassionately.

Over 8 weeks, we'll learn about the functions of our attentional habits through inner practice as well as directly from those who lead with each type. We'll not only get to know more about the Enneagram but also get to connect with each other as humans (within and beyond type) as we build compassionate understanding for the origins of each type structure.

Together we’ll explore:

➡️ Why our attention gets automatically hijacked from early in life

➡️ How this operates in each type and how it reinforces our core beliefs

➡️ Insight and live demonstrations to observe and shift this pattern

I’ll offer brief teachings and experiential practices related to these patterns, plus a panel demonstration for each type. Each participant will have an opportunity to do a piece of inner work on a panel with the group holding compassionate witness to the process.

Panels are my favorite way to see where the rubber meets the road when it comes to inner work, granting us a peek behind the surface to witness these patterns at work in real time!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A panel is where folks who lead with a certain type are asked to share more about their personal experience and observations regarding the pattern we are looking at.

This style of learning grants us the unique opportunity to learn more about how a specific pattern shows up in a real, living human being (beyond a written description). The result is often profound shifts in understanding for both the panelist and the rest of the group.

As the facilitator, I will offer an introduction to the topic and then invite panelists to share their personal experiences around the topic. This type of panel is less about explaining and more about exploring these experiences in real time.

This approach comes from my training as a Certified Narrative Enneagram Teacher through The Narrative Enneagram (TNE). Learn more about TNE and the panel method of teaching here.

Note: If you’ve listened to the mini panel episodes of the Enneagram Typecast, the panels in this group will be quite different. Together we will be forming a coherent field of presence to support the panelists to do a piece of inner work live in the group. We’ll talk more about this in Week 1!

  • Being on a panel is totally voluntary, and panelists can choose to discontinue their process at any time.

That said, because of my personal experiences sitting on and witnessing panels have been so illuminating and healing, I highly recommend taking advantage of this opportunity! Especially in a cohort like this where we will be getting to know each other before the panels start, it is an amazing way to do inner work while held in a field of presence among fellow seekers.

On Week 1, I’ll offer an overview of the teaching we’ll be diving into and you’ll be primed to begin observing your Habit of Attention in the week(s) leading up to your panel. We’ll be working with what is alive for you in real time, so there’s no need to prepare anything in advance. Just bring your curiosity and willingness to engage in honest exploration!

  • I highly recommend this style of learning to folks at any level of awareness! In our time together, we’ll be focusing on a small portion of Enneagram teachings, related to attention, fixation, & core beliefs. It is not a comprehensive overview, but rather a chance to experience the type in action and to learn together in community. That said, this group is best for those who have done some self-observation and who have sense of their dominant type.

If you’re called to join but not fully certain of your type, there are a few options:

    a) Reach out for recommendations on who to work with to get clearer on your dominant type! (I don’t currently offer typing interviews but I have some wonderful colleagues who do!)

    b) Sit on the panel of a type you are exploring to see how the material shows up for you

    c) Join the cohort and work with the material without sitting on a panel

  • Practicing and learning in community brings a richness to the inner work. Every time a group gathers, a unique field is created and highlights pieces that are ready to be witnessed and worked with in real time.

When we earnestly observe what is alive in the present moment, there is always an opportunity for new insights to emerge. Additionally, I will be teaching and facilitating from the perspective of identifying the somatic roots of our patterns and working with a somatic approach that is different from many approaches to the Enneagram.

  • Live attendance is encouraged, especially during your type’s week so you can have the experience of sitting on a panel. (See the live session breakdown section for dates.)

Recordings of the teachings and practices made available to group participants. Panels will be also be recorded* for members who are unable to attend. Recordings will be viewable for one month following the final session.

*Panelists will have the option to request that their portion of the recording not be shared.

  • This is a beta run of this style of cohort and I can’t guarantee there will be another group exactly like this. However, I’ll be learning from this group and hope to offer something similar in the future, possibly on a different topic. If now is not the right time to join, you can get on this waitlist to be first to know when a future group is forming.

  • Payment is nonrefundable*. Please consider if this cohort is right for you, and reach out if you have any questions.

*In the case of extraordinary circumstances, payment may be applied toward 1:1 coaching.

  • The next step is to complete an application! Because space is limited by type, I’ll be granting entry to the group on a first-come-first-served basis.

  • If you have more questions or are not sure if this is a good fit for you, you can email me at hello@carynberley.com or schedule a time for us to chat.

Community is a vital component to inner work. In this group space, we’ll have the chance to get to know each other as we try on practices and develop the skills to shift our attention skillfully and learn to see ourselves, each other, and the world itself through a new perspective.

Each week will include brief teachings and practices to tap into the energy of the type(s) we’ll be focusing on that session, in addition to a panel experience. Participants will each have a chance to be on a facilitated panel on their type’s week.

My favorite credentials come from my lived experience and 3-centered practice.

Through direct experiences of presence, I have learned…

It’s not enough to understand ourselves conceptually - we have the potential to sense into embodied belonging in our whole beings.

It’s not enough to know our value - we have the potential to receive unfathomable compassion and love from the world around us, from others, and from ourselves.

It’s not enough to free ourselves - we have the potential to create conditions that foster liberation for all.

Though the work is never done, you are always enough. Wherever you are on your path - here and now - you are worthy.

Join me for The Enneagram & Attention Cohort. We start May 23rd.

“The only freedom we truly have is our conscious placement of attention.”
